Fran's Top 10 Songs of 2016 (So Far...)

Music discovery never seems to amaze me.  This blog has allowed me to hear and see many bands that I may have never discovered.  It is incredible how many of these bands I fell in love with and are now on this list.  I give you my Top 10 Songs of 2016 (So Far,,,)

Radiohead "Daydreaming" - This song represents a return to form for Radiohead.  It is everything I love about Radiohead without being a replica.  I have been waiting for this for years.  I am happy to see they are at a place as a band that they could deliver.

Blue Healer "30,000 Ft." - This song is spacey, dreamy, and atmospheric.  Everything I love.  It is hard to believe this music is coming from a three piece that consists of a drummer, keyboardist, and stand up bass.  It takes me through the same evolution as Tame Impala.  As our writer Tom would say, "This band is everything My Morning Jacket should be".

Bernhoft "Falter" - When I first saw this Norway native perform her brand of Soul I was blown away.  Not only does he have talent he gives you a performance worthy of Prince. This song is very moving and holds a special place in my heart.

Nerf Herder "Portland" - Funny, catchy, and intelligent.  Nerf Herder just keeps getting better with age.  There are so many great tracks on their new album but for some reason I just keep coming back to this one.  My dream is to get name dropped on their next album.

Highly Suspect "Serotonia" - Where their debut is flat our Rock with attitude their new single is bluesy, trippy, and jammy.  The growth is unbelievable.  When can we get an entire album of this?  The vibe it spins reminds me so much of what I love about Led Zeppelin.  That is some pretty hefty company to keep.

Red Hot Chili Peppers "Dark Necessities" - This wasn't the album they were supposed to put out.  After Flea broke his arm and they finally made it into the studio they found themselves without a producer. In walks Danger Mouse and convinces them to write all new material in the studio.  I love the growth and how they are always changing.  Josh Klinghoffer brings such a great 70's guitar feel.

Catfish and the Bottlemen "Soundcheck" - This band told NME that their next album would take over the world.  The fist single was such an ear worm I started to believe it.  Catchy and fun, this song had me pestering the publicist for an advance copy.  Damn you for making me beg.

Weezer "King of the World" - I tend to obsess.  Listening to this song 50 times over a 3 day period qualifies as obsessive behavior.  It is everything I expect from Weezer.  Funny lyrics and a catchy hook.  If you drive by me with your windows down you will hear me singing it.

Paperwhite "Wanderlust" -  This sister/brother duo from Brooklyn via Philadelphia embody what I love about 80's synth pop without giving it a retro feel.  Songs full of emotion take you on a journey that make you feel as if you were floating.  If you have a chance to see this band I would recommend it!

Heyrocco "Yeah" - The 90's consisted of a lot of horrible music.  This songs embodies all that was good about the 90's.  Slacker bravado and attitude.  It's hard to imagine that these guys are still kids.  They have a bright future in front of them.

Honorable Mention - Hit The Lights "Blasphemy Myself and I (acoustic)" - Although this is not a new song the acoustic reworking is.  It gives the song an entirely different feel.  It was hard to pick one song from this EP.  It takes their song writing skills to an entirely different level.

As with any Top 10 list no answer is entirely right and no answer is wrong.  Let's have some feedback.  What are your Top 10 songs of 2016 so far?

See you when the needle drops!
