City Gardens was a magical place. I wax poetic about it often in many of my reviews. On this particular night it brought old friends together.
I ran into a couple of friends that I had not seen since High School. This was about a 3 1/2 year time span. They were heading to see Lush and Babes in Toyland at City Gardens that night. Babes in Toyland I had heard. Who hadn't thanks to Beavis and Butthead. Lush I had not heard but I was willing to go anyway. When I told them that I didn't know Lush they said that there was no way that I wasn't going with them. They knew I would love them. I did. I still do. Their layered guitars are the epitome of shoegazing goodness without the deafening volume of My Bloody Valentine. I saw them again in '92 at Lollapalooza. This started my love affair with Lush so it will forever be a night to remember.
As I go farther back into the archive to review shows that I have seen it becomes harder and harder. The memory is not what it used to be. Especially considering the drugs that I was doing during this time period. I have no photos. Many of my ticket stubs are gone although I still have a few. The one thing that I still have though is the internet. And it never seems to fail. Instead of a review I will let you watch the concert for yourself. Thanks to YouTube the show exists in its entirety. I tried to spot myself but could not. Enjoy it. I know that I did.
See you at the next show!
Fran
